This ruling upheld the right of the US Congress "to direct the winding up of the affairs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a defunct corporation."

"The pretense of religious belief cannot deprive Congress of the power to prohibit polygamy and all other open offenses against the enlightened sentiment of mankind."
